I've been blessed nearly my entire life to be able to enjoy exercising, and physical activity. Mostly this exercise came in the form of basketball, baseball / softball, tennis, and to a small extent golf (I'm soooo terrible). Over all of those years one thing that I learned was that one gets better at something only thru practice. Practice being that repetitious act of trying to better yourself at something physically and mentally (except for me and golf). My perspective is that the same holds true with faith. One must exercise it to get more familiar with the concept...the concept of leaning on God's strong, protective arms, and the concept of trusting God.
Our lives are filled with, for lack of a better term, lots of "life". And that "life" runs the gamut of trials, tribulations, joys, sorrows, ups, downs, discouragement, parental duties, parental anguish, obligations, tragedies, excitement, and much much more. One of my favorite television commercial lines is, "life comes at you hard". I truly believe that life does that sometimes. With "life" coming at us with such a menagerie of things most of us quickly learn that we can't handle it all by ourselves. Hopefully we realize that God is the source of our strength and not that cigarette, not that martini, or worse, not that recreational drug that many turn to. God is the source of all comfort, and the sooner we humble ourselves and realize that, the better.
Exercising faith requires trust and trust requires faith. They go hand in hand. It's like teaching a child to swim. They have to trust that you, the teacher, will rescue them if they faulter when you let them go in the water. The kid keeps trying and they keep trusting, and building their faith. They have trust that the instructor is always there for help or advice. And they have faith that after much practice they'll be able to swim.
We won't ever be able as humans to stand completely on our own and apart from God. It doesn't work that way. By exercising our faith in God and strengthening that trust there is nothing we can't do.
I'm talking about practice y'all. Exercise your faith.
Peace,

Haughville Man,
You said, "life comes at you hard". A friend yesterday said, "Exactly when does the punching start?" I was thinking, "Exactly when does the punching stop?"
I'm reading in Isaiah and seeing how difficult life was for God's chosen children. As believers, we too know how tough life is. I am on a quest to develop a survival pack for a believer's life in a dead and dieing world.
What do you think would be necessary components of this survival pack? The items will be both tangible physical things and conceptual things.
