Have you ever noticed how many people come to GPC because their attention was caught by the sign? Barbara and I recently became Grace Reps, or Connection Reps (not sure exactly what we're called) and I've noticed several people commenting that they chose to visit GPC because they were drawn in by the sign. Who would have ever thought that an innocent, yet powerful and attractive sign would be so attention grabbing?
Prior to our coming to GPC I had been driving by the sign often as I headed towards IH10 to work and I noticed the unique colors of the sign plus the title of the upcoming Sunday's sermon. Usually the sermon title seemed very thought provoking. Finally, after we decided to leave the church we were attending, we decided to come in and see what was going on at GPC. The rest is history, we're glad we did come in and check it out.
I suppose the significance of the power of the sign for GPC isn't much different than what secular society attempts everyday - to grab our attention through advertising. But there's an added bonus to the power of our particular sign. Lord knows there's far too many TV and radio commercials, newspaper ads, direct mails, coupons, highway billboards, and so forth. It's mind boggling to realize just how bombarded we are everyday with this stuff. And let's face it, if we actually did the math, how often did a commercial, or a billboard lead you to buy that product or service? I know for me the answer would have lots of zeroes behind the decimal point. Although I can't quite totally ignore the advertising, I do think I can get fairly numb to it. When I'm cruising the aisles at HEB I don't grab at a product because of any commercials (I usually grab at the best combination of value and quality).
The power in the sign I'm talking about at Grace Point relates to being drawn in for an opportunity to receive something that's so powerful, so everlasting, and, frankly, so needed by a world full of lost souls. What is available inside the buildings at GPC and available to all who venture down the driveway past that attractive sign is a community of believers who want to connect with others, the powerful presence of God, great worship (especially when Barbara sings - forgive me for that!), and great preaching. That powerful and attractive sign has the possibility of leading lost souls to a changed life and I think that that is awesome.
Grace Point Church and its sign is just one of many places where one can plug in, get connected to God, and begin the journey to an exchanged life. In my particular story it took me a while at GPC to actually get it, to get connected, to feel the power of God working in my life again. I had lots of "stuff" to overcome, I had to unlock some closed doors and let God come in and work in me.
Every time I look at that sign, that powerful and attractive sign I say thank you God for it was the beginning of a very great journey. It's that simple.
Amen
We're all connected

It's a "Sign of the Times"! I like you, waited to get plugged in. Probably for different reasons, but I waited to get back in the game of church. I think that probably sums it up. I wasn't ready to play games. I am hungry for the real thing and wasn't sure what that was. It has become obvious that to find like minded people of faith chasing after the real God, you have to get back in the game. Thank you EPIC for being in the game.
