God Works in the Circumstance

First things first. Cora and I are safely back from Port Aransas. Thank you for your prayers. You can read about our adventure at 37stories.wordpress.com. We had a wonderful time.

Cora and I went to Northstar mall today to stretch out our week long vacation as long as possible. Cora saw a sale going on and I headed for a coffee shop. I was sitting at the counter in the middle of the mall when a kind elderly lady walked up to me. She got really close and right up to my face. She commented how bad a habit it was to chew on your finger nails.

It was true about finger nail chewing, but a bit odd that she would get right up front and personal with me. She pointed out that she had chewed her nails since she was born and her husband had died back in '99. A nun had tried to unsuccessfully break her of the habit when she was young. She still chewed her nails at 83 years old and had good enough teeth for it.

The whole time she is talking to me, I'm trying to figure what to do. She is uncomfortably close and she wants to talk. I'm thinking. Is this lady nuts or does God have a plan in this unusual circumstance. I've found that God many times reveals Himself in the unusual. Anyway, I commented that there are probably worse habits to avoid and she agreed.

I'm praying. God what do you want me to do with this? She says, she is looking for her daughter who is wearing orange pants. She spots her and says she must go. I say, "God bless" and I am still scratching my head and chewing my nails trying to figure out what God had in mind with the unusual circumstance.

Any thoughts?

Fred. I am laughing. The thought did cross my mind. After all she did have most of her teeth. Archie

She's a "Close-talker!!"

Maybe she's living vicariously through you...maybe no one ever cared enough to tell her in a kind way (rather than critically) that she should not bite her nails.

What is the souce of it? Why do you bite your nails? Is there something deep within that God wants to heal, reveal, expose?

Keep prayin!! Great story, you are definitely the "Blogmaster" of my world, Archie. Thanks for sharing.

Archie, I was a nail chewer for years until someone mentioned that we never quite get all of the dirt and germs out no matter how much we wash our hands (and no, it wasn't a kindly old lady). Sooo...I stopped biting them in the early 90's and I noticed a distinct drop in the number of colds and sickness that I encountered - quite amazing I'd say.

JC,
Thanks for the good hygiene tip. Remind me to never chew on your nails. Ha!

Just one more hang nail...

Hi Archie,
I am a notorious nail biter and probably always will be. It is just something I can't seem to break and it gets worse with stress.

Maybe she was just encouraging you to stop. I have had many people pass through my life with the same message.

Want to form a support group? I know I have a problem and need to stop..that is the first step, right?? Let me know..

:) Sara

Well I have told people in the past not to bite there nails. Of course being a nail tech for 20yrs. and seeing someone bite there nails is like a challenge to me. And it is true about the hands and nails being the dirtiest part of your body. To renew our licenses now we have to go through a 2hr sanitation course every 2yrs. Sorry blog father, this wasnt more of a spiritual insight. I do agree that God wants us out of our comfort zone sometimes though.

I think. Somewhere in the Bible, it says God created nails on the first day and saw that it was good. On the second day He realized they needed trimming and created teeth. On the third day, he created nail salons for ladies and said the guys had teeth. On the fourth day....

duh blog fawder

Oh wait! On the fourth day he created support groups. Right Sara? And on the fifth day...
